Webinar Description:
It’s called the “Resolution Revolution,” and is having a profound impact on Structural Biology. Cryo-EM enables researchers to determine the 3D structure of protein molecules at the near atomic-level, helping them discover critical new therapies and rule out ineffective ones more quickly than ever before. However, the life-enhancing data generated by cryo-EM microscopes can be locked up for years in an unprocessed form. With inadequate infrastructure, the enormous amount of data can overwhelm storage and reconstruction systems in the cryo-EM pipeline, resulting in slowdowns or even breakdowns in the workflow.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Join Dr. James Maltby, a Solution Architect for Cray, Inc. who specializes in mapping scientific and business applications to new computer architectures, for a look at the bottlenecks that commonly occur in cryo-EM pipelines and a discussion on the mission-critical computing resources needed for your cryo-EM infrastructure.

Dr. James Maltby is a Solution Architect for Cray, Inc. and specializes in mapping scientific and business applications to new computer architectures. He has an academic background in physics and engineering, specializing in radiation transport. He has worked for Cray since 2000, developing software for the massively multithreaded Cray XMT as well as other Cray systems. He also led the Bioinformatics practice at Cray for several years, using HPC to solve Life Science problems. In addition, he wrote a highly parallel in-memory Semantic Graph Database for the XMT architecture. His most recent project involved developing a Scalable Deep Learning and Analytics package for the Cray XC series of supercomputers, now available as Urika XC.
