January 16, 2014 | A U.S. government-funded program is enabling hundreds of infants' genomes to be sequenced in medical centers around the country, searching for the causes of mysterious illnesses. At Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Dr. Stephen Kingsmore's program has advanced to the point that half of the children enrolled receive diagnoses within just a couple of days – sometimes leading to lifesaving interventions.
