January 30, 2014 | Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson announced today that it will join the ranks of companies opening their full clinical trial data to outside researchers, under a new model that the company claims go farther than any of their competitors. Scientists applying to see the complete data from a clinical trial will file their requests, not with Johnson & Johnson, but with an independent review board at the Yale Open Data Access Project at Yale School of Medicine, which will have decision-making power in sharing data. Johnson & Johnson also stands out from its competitors in offering access to data from trials going as far back as its record-keeping allows, rather than limiting its data transparency to projects moving forward.
